Lidl Patronus Weissbier Alkoholfrei
- Lidl
- 0.5 % ABV
Brewed by Franfurter Brauhaus for Lidl
Given their German roots, it's 'Lidl' surprise (I'll stop it with the puns now) that Lidl know what they're doing when it comes to sourcing and brewing decent beer.
They're also experts in copying the market leaders, in terms of product range, packaging and as far as possible taste.
This Weissbier is a perfectly acceptable attempt. However, compared to my personal favourite (Franziskaner), it's just not quite as good. As the photo shows, it creates a good amount of head, which makes it feel like a proper beer to drink. It's pretty cloudy - presumably as a result of being brewed according to German purity law. The taste is good, not memorable, but I'd go back for another.
If you happen to be in the alcohol aisle in Lidl, and like non-alcoholic Weissbier, pick one up and give it a go. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. They've done a good job, and it's nice to see the big supermarkets like this taking a bit of a lead in producing decent and well-priced non-alcoholic beers. I guess that shows the market is demanding a wider variety of both style and price.
